Two months at KSERC
I have joined KSERC, Thiruvananthapuram, on 15th April 2024 for a one-year internship program. During the training period ,we interns got the opportunity to meet every members at KSERC . They gave us a thorough introduction to KSERC and its functioning. Over the past two months, I have had the chance to learn more about the Electricity Act, regulations, statutory bodies and Energy sector .Attending various hearings on petitions, regulatory frameworks etc. was a new experience for me . These sessions are very informative, with deep thinking and decision making comments from Hon'ble members .
Currently, I am assigned to the compliance wing of KSERC, headed by Sri.Bhuvanendraprasad Sir, which helps me to understand various consumer concerns, standards for performance of licensees etc. Members of KSERC are very helpful, they are willing to clear our doubts when we approach them. Also they share various news and information related to energy sector as well as other topics. As part of the internship program, various assignments, seminars, and other activities are also conducting to improve our technical knowledge and self-development skills.


Eight months at KSERC
My internship period has reached 8 months. So far I have got a lot of opportunities to get involved in the works at Commission. As am assigned to the compliance wing of KSERC, I've got the opportunity to draft an Order related to section 142 of the Electricity Act, assisting compliance examiner with the guidence of Member technical and consultant tech (2). Also had done works such as consolidating quarterly reports of different CGRF/ licensees and to upload it into commission’s website in compliance with the Supply Code. Which helps to evaluate the performance of each licensees and CGRF. Since it is a compliance wing, a lot of compliments/ grievances are receiving from the public, hence we sought the report from corresponding officers regarding the grievances along with an acknowledgement to the complainant and after that, based on the received report, intimate the complainant with the matter. Further, if the grievance matter doesn’t comes under the purview of Commission, the complainant is informed to approach concern CGRF to redress such individual grievances.
Additionally, Hon’ble Chairman and Member technical has given more assignments individually and also as a group work. Chairman asked to prepare a PPT on the topic Mind mapping and PM Suryaghar Mufti Bijili Yojana. And additionally asked to do a detailed study on different country’s GDP, population, geographic area, Export & Import, Energy sector, Education sector. As an intern I got the opportunity to do a presentation before Hon’ble Commission on the topic "Renewable Energy Development in India". Member technical Sri.Pradeep Sir has given us an assignment to study sensitivity analysis for GUVNL BESS tender, Presentation on the topic Energy Storage System for Kerala: Investments options to present before the Commission and KSEBL officials on the discussion on the topics Pumped Storage Projects and other Renewable Energy Projects. Further asked to study and submit a detailed study on different Billing system’s sensitivity analysis we have completed the preliminary analysis and Member (Tech) has asked to continue with further analysis process. And also on the topic Demand Pattern Analysis of different states in India. I have got the opportunity to volunteer the public hearing held at Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram with rest of the staffs and interns of the Commission. I had visited State Load Dispatch Centre at Kalamassery with other inters and had watched the real time energy flow monitoring .
Work diary : December
During the month of December, the Tariff Order was issued. Prior to this, the Hon’ble Chairman and the other two members instructed us interns to review the Truing-up Order and the Tariff Order from the previous year. As directed, I read the Tariff Order and began reading the Truing-up Order.
Since I was assigned to the compliance wing, I prepared various notes and letters for the complainants received by the Commission. Additionally, I prepared a note for the review meeting with the members of CGRF & OMBUDSMAN held at SFS on 30/12/2024. The meeting aimed to assess the status of the Ombudsman and CGRF functioning, address their queries, and offer suggestions for improving their operations.
I also attended the RE discussion meeting on 24/12/2024, which was conducted in hybrid mode. I assisted in preparing the minutes for the meeting and heard various suggestions on implementing different billing systems in Kerala. Furthermore, we interns prepared a PowerPoint presentation based on our analysis of different billing systems in Kerala, as directed by Technical Member Sri. Pradeep Sir
